Manchester United view Jarrad Branthwaite has refused to sign a new contract after being offered two stars at Everton.
The 22-year-old impressed at Goodison Park last season and has established himself as one of the Premier League's best young defenders.
Manchester United have made two bids for the centre-back beyond the 2023-24 season, the first for £35m and £10m in add-ons. A second bid of £45m plus £5m in add-ons was also swiftly rejected, with Everton valuing Branthwaite at £70m.
Branthwaite has agreed personal terms with Manchester United and has been offered a contract worth £160,000-a-week, a significant increase on his current deal worth £70,000 at Everton.
The Toffees are keen to tie up their asset to a new contract and talks are expected to take place in the coming weeks.
However, the Daily Mail reports that Branthwaite will refuse to sign a new contract if Everton cannot meet Manchester United's offer.
Old Trafford are still interested in Branthwaite but the club has temporarily withdrawn from transfer talks.

Leno Yoro, considered one of Europe's most promising young players, was at the club last week before moving to Manchester after signing a £52 million deal with Lille completed his transfer.
Manchester United are still keen on signing another centre-back and are still in talks with Bayern Munich over the transfer of Matthijs de Ligt. This bid is around £30m, slightly below Germany's asking price last week.
Improving defensive options is Manchester United's top priority this summer. Raphael Varane has left the club after Willy Cambvara's sale to Villarreal expired.
Victor Lindelof is among the players for sale, while the club could also be looking to sign a returning player amid concerns over Luke Shaw's long-term career, while Tyrell Malacia is yet to return to full training after a year out.
